Pink Out Fundraiser
My name is Jason Frankel and I am the president of Cobb Summer Swim League.
I have held this position for 9 years now and during my time as president, I have personally been through some hard times. In 2019 my wife was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. Luckily we have insurance and a large “village” of friends and family that could help my wife and I and our four children through her double mastectomy and recovery. When she was declared “cancer free” we decided to give back.
We decided to walk in the 2 Day walk with Its the Journey. It was an AMAZING experience! It’s the Journey is a wonderful company that has run the 2 Day Walk for more than 20 years to support LOCAL breast cancer patients. We know that there are so many families that do not have insurance or a village that need help to become cancer free.
In 2020, the Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer took a break from the 2-day walk, as many people did due to Covid-19, but in 2021 we committed to walk again. But, life decided to throw us another curveball and my wife’s tumor came back! In July she had a lumpectomy and in order to be extra careful, she was then scheduled for chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Again, our village stepped in and helped out tremendously while we all went through this treacherous journey. In 2022 she had completed 3 months of chemotherapy, 33 radiation treatments, an oophorectomy, and now hormone therapy to proudly say she is again “cancer free”.
Last year, Cobb Summer Swim League partnered with the Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer to spread awareness and raise money to help stop this vicious disease and to help support other families that are fighting the fight. Together we raised over $21,000 and with our donation to Its The Journey we helped countless LOCAL men an women fight this disease.
In teaming up with the Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer, we will be selling pink shirts, pink caps, and pink bracelets to raise money for breast cancer. We will continue the new tradition of the “Pink Out” for week 5 of this season in hopes that swimmers and parents will come together, wear pink, and show support for all of the other families that have been affected by breast cancer.
In conjunction with the Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer, the Cobb Summer Swim League and its families we will be helping people diagnosed with breast cancer right here in Cobb County and the state of Georgia. I hope that you will join the fight with us to help everyone affected by breast cancer.
